Multipoint locks — the secure front-door standard

3, 5 or 7 locking points on one turn of the key: the effective answer to the crowbar, fitted by the rules.

A single-point lock secures your door in one place — one point to defeat. A multipoint lock engages 3, 5 or 7 points over the door's full height with one turn of the key: the crowbar that beats a single-point in seconds meets anchors top, centre and bottom that cannot be attacked at once. It is today's front-door standard — often at insurers' own request.

Why multipoint — and how many points

Burglary statistics are blunt: the front door is the main target, and brutal prying the dominant method. A single-point concentrates everything on one bolt; multipoints spread the effort and stop the leaf flexing. The realistic question in 2026 is not whether but how many: 3 points for a standard upper-floor flat, 5 points for houses, tall or exposed doors, 7 points for large doors and top A2P grades. Many French policies require "3 points minimum", sometimes certified — the fitted lock's certificate is your proof.

Surface-mounted, mortice or cased

The surface-mounted multipoint fits on your existing door's inner face — the renovation solution par excellence: no routing, fitted in half a day, invisible from the landing (condominium-friendly). The mortice multipoint lives inside the leaf on recent doors and is replaced to template. The cased version adds a full-height aluminium cover protecting the rods. In every case the cylinder decides much of the real level: we fit protected cylinders as standard — a multipoint with a €12 cylinder is armour with a cardboard door.

The fitting is where it is won

A badly fitted multipoint binds, wears early and ends up jamming — the top cause of the "multipoint failures" we repair. A proper fitting means top, centre and bottom strikes aligned to the millimetre, seal compression adjusted, and a key that turns smoothly with the door closed. We do not leave until it locks with a fingertip — and the work is guaranteed.

FAQ

Can my door take a multipoint? Almost any sound door can, surface-mounted. If the leaf is too weak, we say so — and talk armouring instead of selling a lock the door cannot back.

Does it bind by nature? No — a well-fitted multipoint turns as smoothly as any lock. Binding means fitting or adjustment, not fate.
