3-point lock — the right level for your front door

The 3-point lock has become the recommended minimum for a front door — and the requirement of many French home insurance policies. Three locking points (centre, top, bottom) on one turn of the key: enough to defeat the crowbar work that beats any single-point, without the budget of a 5 or 7-point. For a standard Paris-region flat, very often the best security-to-price ratio.

What it changes

On a single-point, everything rests on one bolt at mid-height: pry there, or flex the leaf top and bottom, and the door yields in seconds. Three anchors stop the leaf flexing and force each point to be attacked separately, loudly — beyond the few minutes most intruders will risk. Certification testing confirms it: moving from 1 to 3 points multiplies resistance time past the threshold where the majority give up.

Surface-mounted or mortice

The surface-mounted 3-point fits your current door from the inside — no routing, half a day's work, discreet finishes, invisible from the landing (a neat answer to condominium façade rules). The mortice version hides in the leaf on recent doors and replaces to template. Either way, the cylinder carries much of the real security: we fit protected cylinders as standard.

3 or 5 points? For an upper-floor flat with a standard door, a well-fitted 3-point does most of the work. 5 points earn their keep on tall doors, houses, and wherever insurers demand it — about €150–300 more, fitted.
